Why I made Minutes

I found what helped me sleep. Then I kept quitting it.

So I turned it into six blackberry gummies I look forward to every night. Below is every dose, down to the milligram.

One bag is 28 nights. One night is six gummies.

I've always had trouble falling asleep, and even more trouble winding down enough to try.

When I took something to help, I paid for it in the morning. I'd get to sleep, then wake up groggy.

Eventually I found three ingredients that helped me wind down: saffron, magnesium and L-theanine. Then I fell off them, more than once.

Pills felt like medicine. Powders were a project at 10pm. And the gummies I actually liked had doses too small to matter.

So I made the thing I couldn't buy. Minutes is six blackberry gummies a night, with saffron and L-theanine at the doses used in published studies, plus magnesium, and no melatonin at all.

I sell this, so I'll show my work instead of asking you to trust me.

What's in it

Every amount is printed on the label. There's no proprietary blend hiding how much of anything you get.

  • 28mg saffronThe exact daily dose used in a placebo-controlled sleep study of this extract.
  • 200mg L-theanineAn amino acid found in tea. This is the daily dose used in a four-week study. We match the dose, not the outcome.
  • 120mg magnesiumThe supporting ingredient. It doesn't match a single study, and I won't pretend it does.

Why there's no melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone. Its main job is telling your body what time it is, which is why people take it for jet lag. My trouble was switching off at night, and that seemed like a job for nutrients.

Leaving it out also means there's nothing left to wear off in the morning.

Labels were the other reason. When researchers tested 25 melatonin gummies in 2023, 22 were off from their labels by more than 10%. One had almost three and a half times the amount it listed. Every amount in Minutes is printed, and an independent lab tests it.

Why it takes six gummies

At these doses, the ingredients add up to about 1.2 grams a night. I'd rather split that into six small gummies than shrink a dose.

They're jammy blackberry, made with pectin instead of gelatin, with no sugar alcohols. All six take about 30 seconds to eat, and you don't need water.

This was the part I cared about most. A sleep routine has to survive a Tuesday night when you're already in bed. None of mine did.

The research

What the saffron study found

Adults with poor sleep took Affron® saffron or a placebo every day for 28 days. Researchers tracked their insomnia scores on a scale of 0 to 28, where lower is better. Most of the people who finished were women, and their average age was about 50.

Points dropped in 28 days. Bigger bar is better.

About three times the improvement of placebo.†

A study of the saffron extract at 28mg a day, not a claim about the gummy. It's also why the trial lasts 28 nights.

Your first 28 nights

There's no sedative in Minutes, so don't expect to be knocked out. It's meant to make winding down easier.

Common questions

I fall asleep fine, then wake at 3am. Will this help?

It might. The saffron in Minutes is supportive for menopausal women and helps you stay asleep through the night.† You have 28 nights to find out, and if it doesn't help, one email gets you a refund.

Will I feel groggy in the morning?

There's no melatonin and no sedative in Minutes, so there's nothing left to wear off when you wake up.

Can I take it with my medications?

It's three nutrients, with no hormones and no sedatives. Still, show your doctor the label first if you take an antidepressant (SSRI or SNRI) or a prescription sleep medicine, if you have kidney problems, or if you're pregnant or nursing.

I take melatonin now. How do I switch?

The NIH says melatonin isn't associated with physical dependence, so most people simply swap on the same night. Take Minutes in place of melatonin. Don't take both. If you're unsure, ask your doctor.

How do I cancel the subscription?

In two clicks, whenever you like. You can also email hello@getminutes.co and we'll cancel it for you.
